Drake Deknatel

Drake Deknatel was born in New York in 1943, grew up in Chicago and lives in Seattle for more than two decades. He studied at the University of Tucson Arizona and the Art Institute of Chicago with Charles Littler, a student of Hans Hofmann.
Drake Deknatel, influenced by his teachers and role models, was a representative of American abstract realism, but he did not define a style of painting. In his last years, he found a new figurative expression, in which he shared with the experiences of his children and youthful times.
His second passion was music, especially blues. During his time in Chicago he met famous representatives of the so-called white blues of the 60 years, for example Al Cooper, with whom he also played together.
He has had numerous exhibitions in the US and Europe, his works are in museums and in large private and public collections, including the Museum of New Mexico and the Oregon State Capital Collection.
He had his last exhibition in Europe in 2003 at the Galerie Michael Schultz in Berlin.
He died in November 2005 in Portland, Oregon.
